'Sweet River'

2002, 15hh, 6th generation ranch-bred QH gelding.

Officially assessed at Level 2 of the Parelli Program and well into Level 3. If his rider lacks a little confidence River just fills in more. You can probably tell from his face that River is Mr. Personality. He is sweet, kind and thinks humans are just part of his herd. River is curious, gregarious and has a great play drive. He has been known to plant himself in the middle of the auditors during clinics just so he doesn’t miss out on any of the action. He is really a partner of a lifetime.

So basically he is perfect! Right? Actually he has one imperfection. He cribs! We don’t know why as he has been raised just as naturally as the rest of the herd. He started this while being weaned at another ranch. He is the most well adjusted guy you will ever meet and is looking for a partner who will manage with this flaw. Someone out there is going to get a very special horse in return.

Have you heard the story of how River got his name? River’s dam, Finesse, headed up on the mountain side with her sister to have their foals together. (It is actually not uncommon for us to see mares go and foal at the exact same time). Finesse returned to the ranch that morning but when we went to catch her she ran back up to the bridge over the creek. It was high water this time of year and the water was up and roaring! It was obvious Finesse wanted us to follow her and when we arrived at the bridge we could see a black something hung up on a rock downstream. It was a foal! Buddy hauled the foal out of the water as Finesse eagerly awaited the rescue. This is how ‘River’ got his name. (‘Creek’ didn’t sound quite as nice…)
