If you’re interested in improving your relationship with your horse I believe I can help you. I have seen the Parelli Program work over and over again to build the foundation in both the horse and human that will lead to amazing results.
Regardless of what our goals are with our horses, don’t we all want our horses to be ‘Calmer, Braver, and Smarter’? This comes from relationship, not ‘do’s and don’t’s. The relationship comes from a deeper understanding of what makes your horse tick. Then, learning strategies that will actually cause you to impress your horse.
The Parelli Program is divided into 4 Savvies (or topics). It starts off with Online, which is done from on the ground with halter and lead ropes. And, Freestyle which is riding done mostly with a loose rein. Online done to a high level turns into Liberty (from the ground with the horse free). Freestyle builds the emotional fitness that gives your horse the confidence, relaxation to achieve better results during Finesse (Refined riding with contact, and collection). Freestyle is the foundation for bridleless riding.
The study of Level 1-4 is not discipline or sport specific. It is about having a foundation, understanding your horse at his core. Knowing, as Pat says, ‘when to be, why to be, where to be, and what to do when you get there.’, Your horse will start to look at you differently and you will truly have the powerful relationship with your partner. Then, when you’re having more fun and results than you ever dreamed of, the sport of your choice is just the ‘icing on the cake’.
There are a lot of ‘training programs’ that deal with a horse’s physical issues, but rarely the mental /emotional aspects. Yet, the roots of most human/horse problems are mental/emotional problems. Advice like, ‘get a bigger bit’, ‘show’em who’s boss’, or get another horse.
Unfortunately, many people have only been exposed to what I call the ‘Level 1 nightmare student’ They are waving sticks at cranky horses, and yet are more than happy to share that they are ‘doing Parelli’ . This is not the Parelli Program.
Renew your imagination, capture your horse’s heart, impress your neighbors!!
During clinics I find myself saying, ‘Horses will not leave us unchanged’.
Devanee will teach up to the Level she is assessed which is Level 4. Achieving Level 4 makes her one of the highest achieving students in Canada.
Devanee will teach up to 6 participants, plus the host spot.
Cardinal Ranch horses are available for clinics. Skip hauling your horse and just show up and use one of our! The skills you will learn will impress your horse when you get home.
This is when I am suppose to lay out my credentials and expertise for you……but first of all I want you to know that I have laid in bed dreaming about horses ever since I can remember ( and still do!) Maybe some of you can relate. It is wonderful to know that I was made with a heart for horses and have been able to follow it to this extent. It is truly a gift from God. I am so thankful to be making my living with horses and the humans that love them! It would be a privilege to share some of our journey together.
In 2009, Cooper and I graduated from the original Level 3 and the current Level 4 of the Parelli Program. This has been a culmination of our last 10 years of an emphasis on developing my foundation as a horseman. The Parelli program provides an amazing foundation for both the human and the horse and the development of horses at Cardinal Ranch has provided me with many a teacher of the equine sort. A large assortment of horses like this certainly lends itself well to filling in holes we may have in our understanding of horses, so I am thankful for this.
I have also had many other incredible horsemen in my life. The Parelli program has been the source of my foundation, but I have ‘iced the cake’ with other world class horsemen. Craig Johnson teaching the fundamentals of reining, Jack Brainard, a true legend of the horse world, Walter Zettl in Classical Dressage. ‘dressage is art, not a butchering!’, and Martin Black for Colt Starting, Ranch Roping and Cow work.
There are two other people in our life that changed so much for Buddy and I. They are Don and Randee Halladay. Don, is of course the top 4* Parelli Instructor in Canada, and Randee is a 2* as well. They have been coming to Cardinal Ranch for over 6 years. They have been mentors, encouragers, counselors, and fine examples of professional teachers and horsemen.
I am not sport specific, or breed specific, I love to see what I can do with my horse to challenge and improve our foundation. When I try something new I’m thinking, ‘Hey, what are we going to do now with this cool partnership we have going. I like to break stereotypes, jumping and dressage on my little quarter horses, cow work with a warmblood. It’s got to be fun and the relationship has to be first!
What makes my heart go ‘pitter patter’ was always horse development. Now I have ‘teaching urges’ that are difficult to contain. I love to share what I have
The timing was great when I was invited to go down to Florida in Feb, 2010 for 4 weeks. It was very inspirational and education close to the source. I was looking for many answers as to where this journey would take me. Could I pursue teaching and still tuck my kids in at night? In August I attended a 2* and received the answer that ‘Yes, I could’.
Course in Colorado and sure enough a pathway worked out for me to be licensed to teach, and still be home at Cardinal Ranch. I am so thankful to the Parelli organization for this!!
