2001, 15.1hh, Quarter Horse Gelding
Picture yourself riding out on trails, just you and your horse, without a worry in the world. We talk to quite a few people that tell us that they are in a place in their life that they don't want to worry about their safety when they are with their horse. They just want to relax, have fun, and enjoy their next 15-20 years in the saddle. They don't want to take the chance on getting hurt. If safety is your number one priority, this could be a great horse for you.
Okie is possibly the most laid back horse that Cardinal Ranch has ever experienced. The 'spook factor' is pretty much zero, and Okie has had so much experience and miles that nothing seems to phase him. Whether first, last, alone or out with a group, Okie is a picture of confidence. Kids and beginners gravitate towards this horse. You'll catch the kids out in the pasture jumping on his back, but he is still a good horse for covering some miles or getting a job done.
Okie was assessed Level 2 of the Parelli Program in spring of 07, since then he continues to be strong and steady. Julia, one of our working students has done Level 3 with Okie all summer. This has included 30 days of Level 3 instruction with the top rated Parelli Instructor in Canada, Don Halladay. He also did a 4 day, Fundamentals of Reining Clinic with Jack Brainard.
Horsanality: People that get to know Okie always comment how 'sweet' and 'cute' he is. And it's true! This horse is full of good intention. He is heavy on the Left Brained and is calm, dependable and consistent. His motto could be 'when in doubt .....do nothing'. Although very friendly and loyal, Okie is more of an introvert. Okie tends not to test the leadership of his human very much and is pretty happy to go along with whatever the plan may be. He is more 'Whoa' than 'Go' which adds to the safety factor. When he understands your communication he is more than willing to go as fast as you like, But, when 'all Hell breaks loose', he is the horse most likely to just park.
Not only will be feel great on this horse, but you'll look great too. His classic Quarter Horse looks come from quality pedigree.
