'Lola'

Lola is a unique and elegant mare with the confidence all of us dream about in our equine partners. This combination of breeds has resulted in athleticism, sensitivity and lightness. Here’s some history …..Lola arrived at Cardinal Ranch as a yearling and has been out in the herd ever since. She was selected because of her interesting breeding. It was an absolute bonus to discover that she was a quiet and sweet filly that took to ranch life like a duck to water. Started as a 3 yr old using the Parelli Natural Horsemanship Program, Lola was through Level 2 in a couple of months. Another amazing thing I remember about her start was that she was confident on trails from her very first ride out. She was just always easy and uncomplicated.

Lola’s 4 yr old year was a busy one. She took part in the Level 3 Development Program and of course the cattle drives and extreme trail riding that are part of Cardinal Ranch life. Lola’s balance and coordination really came together and she displayed lovely gaits as well as being comfortable to ride.

As a 5 year old in 2010 Lola has really come into her own. One of the spring rides included a ride to church. We were late, and Lola led the charge on a short cut (right down the middle of Main Street!!)

As you can already guess, her Horseanality is very interesting. She is a very confident learner and knows she can figure her way out of any puzzle. She also has some very positive introverted traits such as being very forgiving, obedient, and dependable. Her spirit Level is Low/Medium, yet she is very perceptive, sensitive and light. She has a touch more ‘whoa’ than ‘go’. Lola is very bonding and just gets better the more comfortable she gets with her human. (If all mares were like this they would not have such bad reputations.)

Lola is currently being developed by Devanee(Level 4 Parelli Graduate) and they are focusing on precision, ‘Finesse’ riding. Devanee has recently taken ‘Classical Dressage’ lessons with Walter Zettl and applying what she has learned to Lola has been a delight.
