'Big Medicine' SOLD
2000, 16 hh APHA gelding. Unique 'Medicine Hat' colour pattern. Native Americans believed that these horses have special strength, spirit and courage in battle. After getting to know 'Big Medicine' we would have to agree. He is as strong in character as he is in body.
Big Medicine has had a busy year. The summer consisted of 20 days of Level 3 clinics with Don Halladay with visiting Level 3 students, as well as some time in the Jack Brainard clinic with Devanee.
We often talk about horses making the transition from being horses that need a confident human, into horses that offer confidence to their human. Big Medicine has made this transition and now has confidence to spare.
He has been in so many different situations over the last few years that he is now a well seasoned gelding that takes everything in stride. Some of the things he seen and done are cattle drives, rodeos, backcountry riding, and lots of clinics. Devanee has started several young horses from the back of Big Medicine (including Cooper), and he genuinely enjoys the job!
As for Horseanality, charismatic, dependable, athletic and smart all describe Big Medicine. He is primarily a left brained horse. If his mind wanders it is easy to get his attention back by adding some purpose or extra challenge to what you are doing. He likes a job. He also likes FOOD! For example, if you turn him loose he will canter into a horse trailer for the prospect of a snack. He is very motivated by the 'treat factor' and we use this very sparingly.
As far as being introverted/extroverted goes, Big Medicine came to us as a horse that had introverted tendencies. He would hide 'inside' when he wasn't sure about things. The Parelli Program is great about addressing these issues and he is now quite an extrovert, and pretty much gregarious and confident all of the time.
In the impulsion department. Big Medicine would be about a '4', being slightly more 'whoa' than 'go'. He willing moves forward, but likes to stop even better. A nice combination for relaxing trail rides on your own. He has a medium spirit level.
